Travel Hashtags 2026: Tag Sets for Trips, Hotel Reviews and Hidden Gems

Travel viewers come in two kinds: people watching for fun and people planning. The planners are the ones who save, share and follow — and they search with constraints: how many days, what budget, who they're going with. Not #travel on its own.

Tags that state those constraints are the strongest specific tags in this niche, and the least used because they look unglamorous. The sets below cover all three tiers.

Copy starter set (2 broad + 4 mid + 2 specific)

Then swap the specific tags for ones that match your clip before posting

#travel #traveltok #travelguide #solotravel #budgettravel #hiddengems #travelthailand #japantravel

Broad

Use 1–2 to name the category

Mid-tier

Use 3–4 — this tier does the work

Specific

Use 2–3, adapted to your clip

How to build your own specific tags

The best specific tags are the ones only you can use. Fill these patterns with the real details of your clip.

  • •#destination + travel → #lisbontravel #vietnamtravel
  • •#N days in + place → #3daysinLisbon #48hoursinTokyo
  • •#budget + place → #budgetbali #cheaptokyo
  • •#travel + who → #couplestravel #familytravel #solofemaletravel
  • •#stay type + place → #hostelbangkok #airbnbchiangmai

A worked example for one clip

Clip

A 2-day, 1-night trip to Nan, Thailand on a 3,000-baht budget, couple, homestay

Why this set

The first five tags are every constraint of this trip, so whichever one someone searches by, they land here. #hiddengems is earned because Nan genuinely is off the main tourist trail — don't use it for Phuket.

How to place them on each platform

TikTok

4–6 tags, always the destination plus a constraint (days or budget). Pin the location and say place names out loud. If the clip covers several spots, list them all as plain text in the caption.

Instagram

8–15 tags. Travel Reels get a lot from the Location tag, so tag the main spot. Write an informative caption (entry fee, opening hours, how to get there) — people save those, and saves are a signal Instagram weights heavily.

YouTube

Shorts: three tags. For long-form, put every location with a timestamp in the description, and use the Tags field for place names in both English and the local spelling.

Common mistakes in this niche

  • ❌All-broad sets (#travel #wanderlust #vacation) on a domestic trip whose viewers are local.
  • ❌No day count or budget — trip planners filter by those two things first.
  • ❌#hiddengems on a place everyone already knows. Viewers notice and stop trusting you.

Frequently asked questions

How many hashtags on a travel clip?

TikTok 4–6, Instagram 8–15, Shorts 3 — but always at least one place name and one constraint (days or budget).

Should I tag in the local language too?

If you want locals to find it, yes — one local-language destination tag alongside your English ones. Local tags have far less competition.

What do I tag for a sponsored stay?

Disclose it the way the platform requires (the paid-partnership toggle, or #ad / #sponsored) — tagging the hotel's name alone is not disclosure.
